the cave room had air con that barely worked, not what I expected in a luxury hotel. plus, navigating the steps with my bags was like climbing Everest, and I wasn’t offered an upgrade to compensate for my discomfort. absolutely ridiculous! I almost gave a good review, but there’s just too much to nitpick here.

Staying at Palazzo Degli Abati was incredible! Our cave suite had a glass floor showing ancient artifacts. Stunning terrace views for breakfast. The staff really helped me explore Matera, even with a few bumps like air con issues. Still, I can't recommend it enough!

The best and worst parts
The location is simply breathtaking, offering panoramic views and a delicious breakfast at the terrace cafe. The cozy cave room adds a unique charm, blending luxury with history—perfect for a romantic getaway.
Accessibility can be challenging, with some guests feeling overwhelmed by the number of stairs leading to the rooms. Moreover, some minor cleanliness issues detracted from an otherwise delightful experience.

Our cave room was stunning with a transparent mezzanine. The atmosphere was like a fairytale, perfect for romance. Those views from our terrace? Absolutely breathtaking—like we were living in a postcard!
However, navigating the stairs felt like training for the Olympics! Not the best for an elegant entrance, darling.
